301 Permanent redirect
.. should be automatically update the settings, or should give a different error message (site is not technically down :) )

After investigation, your issue appears to be a faulty HTTP server, returning 301 on HEAD request, without any redirect URL (200 OK on GET request). This issue will be handled by the automatic fallback to GET request in case of invalid server response to HEAD.
